The silence of the desert and beautiful nights has made the residents, who are traditionally proud, honorable, honest, patient and hard-working, to endure the natural hardships.

With an area of 187,502 square kilometers(117,188 square miles), the southeastern province of Sistan and Balochistan is “the third-largest province of Iran, and home to 11.4 percent of the country's population”. It shares 1,700 kilometers(1062 miles) of common border with Pakistan and Afghanistan, and stretches 350 kilometers(218 miles) along the Gulf of Oman.

Sistan and Balochistan are home to a population of roughly 3 million, 500 thousand, of who are concentrated in the provincial capital of Zahedan. The projected population includes 200,000 Afghan emigrants, 50,000 Pakistani emigrants and 200 thousand are emigrants from other Iranian provinces. 1

Sistan and Balochistan has seven counties(Shahrrestan) and cities(Shahr) as below:
Zahedan(dozahp), Chabahar(chaharbahar, city of four spring [Spring, summer, Autumn, Winter] year round), Khash, Zabol, Saravan(Shastoon), Iranshahr(Pahra=proud) and Nikshahr, each county(called Shahrestan in Persian) consists of cities(shahr in Persian) and districts, 16 medium to small towns, 26 districts, 92 villages, and 5,695 hamlets.

Among the provincial cities, Zahedan holds the largest rate of urban coefficient, Iran-shahr has the second urban coefficient, Chahbahar appears to be surpassing Saravan in urban coefficient ratio of urban dwellers to rural residents.

1, there are no scientific statistics about Balochistan population and there are no scientific and credible
    statistics about the other Iranian provinces. The Iranian government prohibit scientific social study of
    minorities living in Iran. The Iranian government sees any scientific social study by NGO's and other other
    organizations a security risk and a threat to Islamic government. As ridiculous as it may sound but
    this is the fact that all Iranian has to live with.
